Karl Rouger

I received an education in cell and molecular biology (Nantes & Rennes University). I am an INRAE research scientist (recruited since 2001) with a habilitation to supervise research (HDR; 2017) and a PhD graduate in Biology.

I developed my research in the field of the pathophysiology of myopathies and specifically of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) before orienting my programs on tissue-resident stem cell biology with a particular interest in the diversity of their nature and function. For that purpose, I acquired scientific knowledge in myology as well as skills in histopathology, biochemical and transcriptomic approaches.

I joined the PAnTher Unit in 2001 and have been deputy Director since 2010. I am in charge of a research axis in regenerative medicine dedicated to both the characterization of muscle-derived stem cells and the identification of innovative cell-based therapy for muscle diseases and especially muscular dystrophies. In this line, I implement in vitro/in vivo studies but also high-throughput sequencing studies based on the comparison of different types of adult stem cells.
